Hurricane Dorian was an extremely powerful and catastrophic Category 5 Atlantic hurricane, which became the most intense tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas, and is tied with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane for the strongest landfall in the Atlantic basin in terms of maximum sustained winds. The 2019 cyclone is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the Bahamas’ recorded history.[1] With winds peaking at 185 mph (295 km/h), it was also one of the most powerful hurricanes recorded in the Atlantic Ocean in terms of 1-minute sustained winds, and the strongest since Wilma in 2005.
Pastor Daniel Perez, founder of Disaster Response Humanitarian Aid, coordinated and oversaw the logistics of a large-scale relief effort involving donation collection containers placed at churches throughout Florida. These containers were delivered to designated locations to receive humanitarian aid and donations for communities in need.
Once filled, the containers were collected according to schedule and transported to the Port of Jacksonville and the Port of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for shipment to the Bahamas. Pastor Perez managed the planning, delivery, pickup, and transportation process to ensure the successful movement of relief supplies.
This humanitarian initiative was conducted in partnership with Adventist Community Services (ACS) of the South Eastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists under the leadership of Director Pastor Robert Moore. Additional support was provided through the Medical Cadet Corps, where Pastor Perez was serving as Conference Director at the time.
Special appreciation is extended to Bronco Transport, Inc., whose generosity and commitment made this mission possible. The company graciously accepted the challenge and covered all transportation expenses associated with moving the containers throughout Florida and delivering them to the Bahamas. Their partnership played a vital role in bringing hope and assistance to those affected by disaster.
